Black on White features three artists who tell their stories of life and the world around them using the most basic form of art: black marks on white paper. Don’t let this fool you – their stories are colorful.

Featuring:  Adele Hammond, charcoal on paper. Virginia Flynn, paper cuts. Sorcha Meek, painting, sculpture and photography.

The show opens on Friday, November 5th, with a public reception from 6-8pm, and extends through November 28th. Be sure to vote in the People's Choice Award!

 

“The idea for the show came from a conversation with artist Adele Hammond regarding a piece of her's called Seduction,” says show curator Jean Vercillo. When asked why there was no color in the piece Hammond answered, "color would be too limiting.”

Virginia Flynn’s love with the stark beauty of black and white originated with the attire of her early education teachers, nuns. “The sheer beauty of black and white was imprinted on my soul.”

Sorcha Meek's Voyage Series is the result of a year spent in Bordeaux, France with her husband and two children. Having no art supplies with her and eager for the challenge of working with whatever happened to present itself. “In many ways this idea was the basis of our experience as a family. We arrived with very little, and it was up to us to create a life for ourselves.”
