Artists Play With Words ... The Columbia Art Gallery’s November show features the works of 18 well-known artists as eclectic as they are talented. In Art Lexicon the artists were asked to “Play with Words” and mix the metaphors as well as their mediums.

The literal and figurative interpretations of the written word by participating artists working in a variety of mediums, will draw you in as only a good story can.

Meet authors Marjorie and Scott Burns, and photographer Darryl Lloyd for a book discussion and slide show of this fascinating new edition of “Cataclysms on the Columbia.”

The book takes you on a journey back millions of years into the Pacific Northwest's prehistoric past with updated scientific information and color photographs. The story of the waters that carved out the Columbia River Gorge and the force of one man's convictions is one that will leave a lasting impression.

You don't want to miss the amazing BodyVox-2 dance group while they're here in Hood River. Come for the dance performance at 7:30, and if you want to learn some master dance techniques, come to the dance class from 10 - 12 noon.

Under the direction of admired teacher and former BodyVox dancer, Zachary Carroll, BodyVox-2 provides a mentoring and performing opportunity for talented young dancers as they transition from training to the professional world

Here's an opportunity for you to enjoy world-class chamber music by an internationally acclaimed music group, the Vinca Quartet.

The group is visiting the Gorge as part of an "artist residency" program in the school systems, and will be providing a free concert for the public on November 8th at 5 pm, at Columbia Center for the Arts in Hood River.

There are three workshops to choose from; each workshop has two class sessions. Choose from photography, jewelry making, and Majolica pottery.

Workshops take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30. Each workshop is only $85.

The Aspen Times says, "The film is as much about the serenity and beauty of the mountains, the filmmakers' take on Japanese visual and spiritual aesthetics, and the people they interacted with on their adventure, as it is about skiing and snowboarding. This multi-media presentation features images and stories from Outside Magazine’s historic First Descent of the Tsangpo Gorge expedition in Tibet.  It also highlights the evolution of cutting edge expedition kayaking from legendary pioneer Walt Blackadar to present day paddling guru Steve Fisher.

The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys is an edgy, engrossing, teen rebellion flick. Extensive animated sequences share a good amount of screen time with the live action narrative.

Set in the rural South in the 1970s in a Catholic school, four pre-teen boys create a comic book called "The Atomic Trinity" to channel their creativity, imagination, and rebellious adolescent angst.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to direct, but never had the chance? If so, then this workshop is for you! Designed especially for the beginner, this introductory directing workshop will introduce you to the basic tools of directing.

The workshop will be conducted by Tom Gressler, Professor Emeritus of Theatre Arts at Linfield College.Gressler has written, produced and/or directed nearly 200 theatrical productions, published three books and over fifty articles, and has presented papers at regional, national and international conferences.
