“I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.”
---- Anne Frank
In a powerful new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman, The Diary of Anne Frank reveals the history of an intensely gifted young girl who must deal with the rapid changes and increasing horrors of her time. This impassioned drama reveals the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic in Amsterdam, Holland, during the latter years of World War II. The claustrophobic realities of their daily existence—their fears and hopes, joy and despair—are revealed through the insightful observations of this remarkable 13-year-old Jewish girl.
The first version of the play appeared in 1947, but was edited by Anne’s father who removed certain family references and some of her highly intimate confessions. This 1997 adaptation is “chillingly honest about the Holocaust” (The New York Daily News) and “tells a deeper story” (New York Newsday).
CAST’s May production of The Diary of Anne Frank, directed by Lynda Dallman, was selected to complement the Columbia Center for the Arts’ exhibits and events on Social Justice held throughout the month
