In 2004 Portlander Brian Eustis chronicled the first-ever complete navigation of the Mekong River from its source in Tibet, to the South China Sea. The film vividly explores and celebrates the diverse cultures and environments of the Mekong valley. The story also weaves in the tapestry of the impending human-rights abuses committed throughout the region and the impact of environmental degradation on the region's subsistence cultures. Although Misty River's music is often compared to the neo-bluegrass style of Alison Krauss and the harmonies of The Trio (Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton), these four women have a sound all their own, fusing the band's award-winning songwriting and compelling vocal harmony with their distinctive acoustic instrumentation of accordion, fiddle, guitar, banjo, ukulele, mandolin and upright bass. For this concert, Misty River will explore the music of Appalachia, China, Ireland and the American South as well as share songs and stories from of their own lives.
