The Dalles Art Center is currently exhibiting the works of 232 students in grades K - 5 from Wasco County, representing 8 schools. Sponsored by Ray Smith Transport with awards provided by Kiwanis, the show will continue through February 3 with a closing reception on the 3rd from 3-4 pm.
The show is full of color and subjects ranging from penguins and toucans to family pets, bugs, self-portraits, landscapes and snowmen to flowers and dioramas and lots more. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy the show and to try to pick out favorites to vote for the Peoples' Choice awards. Receiving "Best of Show" for grades K-2 is Carlos Mondragon, grade K from Colonel Wright Elementary for an untitled felted wool piece. "Judge's Choice" goes to Colonel Wright 1st grader Julia Cersosimo for her watercolor "Dad and Me". Receiving "Best of Show" in grades 3-5 is 4th grader Josiah Steven Abrams from Chenowith Elementary for an untitled pastel. Teal Evert's entire 4th grade class at Colonel Wright was chosen for the "Judge's Choice" for their painted paper masks. Awards will be presented at the reception on Saturday, February 3rd. All are welcome to attend.
The Dalles Art Center, celebrating it's 40th Anniversary year, is located in the historic Carnegie Library downtown at 220 East Fourth Street, phone 541 296 4759. Gallery hours are 11am to 5 pm Tuesday - Saturday.
