Hey, who is driving that shinny new red 2008 Toyota Prius? That’s Hugh Whitson of White Salmon, WA. Hugh is the winner of Columbia Center for the Arts first annual automobile raffle.

Columbia Center for the Arts picked a young man named Drake from the audience on Friday, September 5th to choose the winning ticket from a drum that had been turning to mix the 1358 raffle tickets sold. Over 200 people gathered to witness the drawing.

When the ticket was drawn, Whitson’s name announced and he did not step forward from the crowd Joanie Thomson, Executive Director of Columbia Arts made the call to Hugh to tell him the good news. Whitson’s response was, “You’ve got to be kidding, I won? I had bought the ticket to support Columbia Arts, this is wonderful”.

This raffle was a fundraiser for Columbia Arts and they sold 1358 tickets for a chance at a new Prius.

Over 30 volunteers at the art center committed to sell 30 tickets each, as well as selling tickets at the Center. Because of our volunteer’s commitment and your support of the art center’s mission, this fundraiser was a real success.

Columbia Center for the Arts is located at 215 Cascade Ave and is a non-profit cultural organization that relies upon donations and contributions for many of the programs presented. Support also comes from art sales, performance and event tickets sales, class and workshop fees, and rentals of the theater and classroom.
